I know, that's not how the saying goes. Back in January, I was looking for some home decorating inspiration. Using my trusty dusty Google helper, I typed in these words - "home decorating ideas" and stumbled upon something called a "blog." That's right, up until that moment I had never heard of blogging. It just so happened to be The Nester's blog that I was directed to. My eyes were opened to a whole new world! I received so many wonderful decorating tips from Nester, but more than that, she inspired me to start my very own blog. One of her ideas that I absolutely loved was to hang a mirror on a mirror. Cool! So finally, 5 months later I "borrowed" her idea and did my own rendition. If you are not familiar with The Nester, I encourage you to check out her wonderful blog here, Nesting Place
In my bathroom - I found these two old mirrors at an estate sale for $1. The daughter was anxious to get rid of everything quickly, so I was happy to take them off her hands. The frames were gold - took them home and gave them a coat of black spray paint. Hung them with black grosgrain ribbon.
Disclaimer - don't mind the photographer in the background. Unfortunately there's no way to take mirror shots without her (me) in the pic! hee hee.

The builders of our housing development couldn't have installed larger, wider or uglier mirrors in the bathrooms. And since we are leasing our home we are a bit limited to what we can alter. So it's fun to find ways to jazz something up without removing or altering it!
In the guest bathroom - inherited this one from my MIL. I really love the ornate design on the frame. I spray painted it Heirloom White and hung it on a cream color grosgrain ribbon.

Though I realize this design idea is not for everyone, I encourage you to have fun and think outside the box (or frame) once in a while. I love using items in unconventional ways! Sometimes my kids roll their eyes and say "oh Mama" - but that's okay with me.
So, do you have a fun, unique use for mirrors or frames you'd like to share?

Marie.. I love it! I kid you not, I have a frame that I was thinking about hanging in the bathroom.. just thinking about it this weekend!!! I've decorated my mantle w/ empty frames. The inspiration came from a cupcake shop here. The back of their mantle is covered in mirrors... so it got me to thinking, and I have a ton because I've been collecting them from sales for a while now.
I can't believe you got that huge one for 1.00!! Score!!
Here's to a great week!

I love this idea as well! Finding mirrors are on my list of things I want to find this year at garage sales (have to have a list or I go a little nuts!) Very cute, love the star fish one. So chic!!! -Kelsee

Hi Marie, I am so glad you left me a comment. My blog is only 2 weeks old and I feel like it's dragging a little bit. I totally love your kitchen re-do -great job. If you and I lived in the same town, we could keep the local paint store in business!! Rhonda

Love that idea! I've got one of those ridiculously large, unframed slabs of mirror in my sixties house. I may just have to make my way to a garage sale this weekend to find some unwanted frames. Thanks!
So glad you stopped by today, so that I would end up stopping over here.

I still don't really get it but I can say that because I'm your sister (LOL). I think it probably looks awesome in person so maybe I will get an opportunity to see them "live" when we visit for the party...ta ta!

FABULOUS ideas! I've done similar things for my clients and in my own home made a frame for the powder room mirror with trims that I can just clip over the top of the mirror. A little creativity goes a long way!
Happy Thursday!

Cool project, it really dresses up the space and takes away from those boring builder-basic mirrors. Great job!

Marie! Those are adorable! Isn't it amazing what you can learn in blog land? I have only been blogging a few months too, and I am so totally addicted!
I am totally re-doing my whole house. My husband thinks I've lost it!
I have just gotten so many wonderful ideas how to be thrifty and create wonderful design. I have always been one to shop at Goodwill and yard sales, but girl, I am taking it to a whole new level now! :0)
Your mirrors look fab! I would love to get ready in those bathrooms each morning!
Thanks for sharing.
