I'm in the midst of training two homemakers.
One is thirteen.
The other is six.
I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
They are at different ends of the spectrum, but I have the same goal for them both. To equip them with the knowledge, experience, and tools to one day be lovers of their own homes as they fly this nest.
The dictionary definition of homemaker is: a person who manages the household of her own family.
Being a homemaker is not just knowing how to make a bed or scramble some eggs.
It's much, much more than that.
It's knowing how to create a place for their families where they feel warm, safe, and loved. A comfortable haven away from the outside world that can often times be a harsh, cold place.
Knowing how to fill their home with the sense that the Lord is present. Through worship, loving uplifting words spoken, hugs and kisses given, and God's Word read.
How can we as Mamas pass this wisdom on to our girls? First and foremost, by allowing God to be the center of all we teach. By surrounding ourselves with other Mothers who have this common thread. By reading helpful, encouraging books from trusted authors who can lend us a hand.
I'm a supporter of a new site called
Raising Homemakers.com.
They are dedicated to "inspiring, teaching and blessing mothers who have an interest in raising their daughter in godliness and preparing them in the arts of homemaking to the glory of God."
I encourage you to check it out {here}.
Sarah Mae of Like a Warm Cup of Coffee is one of ten contributors of Raising Homemakers. These ladies will share their wisdom - the things they've learned along the way. I look forward to gleaning from them.
Do you have homemakers in training? If so, where do you find inspiration and encouragement?

I loved this post and thanks for sharing that blog! I'm raising a homemaker too. She's 11. Tomorrow is her last day of school and I'm so excited about the summer. It's my first at home and I have so many "lessons" planned!

Such beautiful girls. I'll be sure to check that site out! I want my girls (and my boy) to have knowledge of keeping a home for when they leave here. I left home not knowing how to cook or do laundry. I wish I had listened and watched my mom more!

This is such a nice post. I've never consciously done this, but my intelligent college going & bound girls, talk about being homemakers. It's such a blessing.

Very cool! I was never really taught how to do this, and have had to teach myself along the way. I really love making our house a home and want my kids and husband to have warm, fuzzy memories about our home life. I'm trying to become a better homemaker so I *can* pass it on to my daughter!

A wonderful endeavor. So important! And I love the photos of your girls in those hilarious glasses! Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment. A crown reminds us of who we are, a daughter of the King! Royalty. Adopted into His family by His Grace and Mercy!!! A couple of tiara's don't hurt either : ) I'm picturing them on your girls soon.

Hi Marie, Your lovely, two girls will learn much about life and love from you, I'm sure. I had a boy, and I tried to teach him things, but you know boys.... I think he thinks some woman will do it all for him! He is actually pretty good- he lived on his own during college. Hope he finds a good woman...
Hope all is well with you and yours. It is hot, humid, and rainy here in Ohio. Bad weather for yard/estate sale-going. Heck, I could shop in all kinds of weather.... But the hosts of these sales close up at the sight of a few raindrops. LOL
hugs, Sue

My momma's main goal was just that: To raise homemakers. It's an important skill that not too many girls learn. I have one little homemaker-in-training. I have 3 boys too, and I teach them the same skills--because they might have to live on their own one day!
